"The Angelus" by Jean Francois Millet - Ebonised Frame

The Angelus by Jean Francois Millet (1857-1855)

 

Depicts two peasants in a field bowing to pray over a basket of potatoes.

The bell from the church on the horizon would ring three times for breakfast, lunch and at the end of the working day and the workers would recite The Angelus (Angel Gabriel's communication to Mary that she would conceive).

 

This lovely print comes in an ebonised frame (see photos for some slight damage)

45cm wide x 35cm high x 3 deep.

 

 

Jean Francois Millet was a French painter from the Realism Movement who painted the Angelus in 1857.
