An original, copperplate engraved, antique map of the WEST RIDING of YORKSHIRE by Robert Morden. The map was first published in the English edition of Camden's Britannia in 1695. Further editions - this map is post 1695 - with minor place name alterations appeared in Britannia in 1715, 1722, 1753 and 1772. The map is framed (495x540mm), mounted and hand coloured. The printed area is 415x370mm and there are good margins. The map features an ornamental, scrolled title cartouche and three mileage scales. It shows towns, villages, woodlands, hills, parks, wapentakes and rivers and is the first map of the West Riding to include latitude and longitude. The map, which is slightly aged toned, is in very good condition.
